Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find the answers to many frequently asked questions regarding tentage and venue options; site visits; insurance; CRB clearance; bookings, fees and costs; references offered.

Tentage for outdoor venues

Burgundian Tent

For outdoor Medieval and early Tudor events, I able to offer a choice of tents to suit the event space.

My large well furnished and dressed tent with awning measures approx 10.8 x 11.3 metres.

This also lends itself to allowing demonstrations and workshops to be performed "undercover" as the central space within this tent be used to can accommodate a small workshop.

Alternately, I am also able to offer a slightly smaller, hand decorated tent measuring 4m x 6m.

Although this is not open fronted, it comes fully furnished inside for viewing. A front awning allows me to be able o demonstrate in full view of the public.

Campaign Tent

Pavillion Tent

For single day events, I have a small pavilion tent. Also comes furnished to provide the backdrop to the demonstrations.

This small tent is ideal for one day events where time may prevent me from being able to erect either of the two larger tents in my collection.

The small pavilion measures approx 5m in diameter.

In every case these tentage measurements include all guys and pegs; a demonstration or presentation can also be entirely contained within the given area.

None of my tentage is suitable for use on hard standing, as all requires pegging and guying.

Indoor events

Where ever the venue, I am able to provide hangings; set dressing; replica furniture and artifacts to create a period atmosphere.

All of my displays are carried out whilst in period clothing.  However, should you require anything more fitting to your event, I would be happy to discuss this with you.

Insurance

I carry professional public liability insurance in the sum of £5 million that is specifically written for historical performance, demonstrations and schools work.  I also have product liability insurance at the same amount to cover any of our own historical replica articles supplied for handling or sale.

I will forward copies of my insurance documents on request in advance of a booking.

Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Clearance

I am advised by my professional association (the professional register) through their direct correspondence with the Director of the Criminal Records Bureau (see letter), that CRB clearances do not have any portability or duration whatsoever but that each check made is specific to = the task and date for which it is requested.  Further, self employed persons such as myself cannot, in law, seek clearance checks for ourselves in any circumstances; the onus is always on the employer to make an application.

I am obviously happy to complete any relevant paperwork you supply and also to forward the original documents that you will need to process your application (I usually do so by registered or recorded delivery and would ask that you return documents in a similarly secure manner)

As the amount of time taken in completing enquiries does seem to vary a great deal I would suggest that where you require a CRB clearance check  your application is made immediately a booking is considered.

Bookings, Fees & Costs

I will keep your provisional booking under consideration for two weeks, undertaking to contact you immediately should an alternate offer be made within that period.  Once an agreement has been made and I have issued a booking form we do have a contract.  In the event of your cancellation a charge will be made.

Our standard fee for an all day session with tentage  - in full costume where required -is from £200.00 per person.  The particular fee quoted for your event will depend on factors such as event duration, length of day, number of sessions undertaken, type of tentage required, etc, etc.

I do additionally require reimbursement of travelling expenses and the cost of Bed & Breakfast accommodation where necessary.  I invoice following a purchase order or otherwise at - or immediately after - an event and accept payment by either BACS or cheque.

Routine in day ‘show and tell’ items with articles for children (and adults) to handle, explore and try on are offered without further charge.  However, depending on the size and type of workshop, a small fee made be required for materials/ingredients etc.

References & Accreditation

I  am more than happy for you to contact any of the clients that I have featured here on this website directly, or to put you in touch with other previous employers if you would like to take up either informal or written references.

I am accredited to the Tabulae professional register.
